About my approach

8E24453A-24C8-4BE8-9779-52440751397A.JPG

My therapeutic practice is rooted in social justice, anti racism, fat liberation, anti ablism, neurodiversity affirming, sex positive and decolonization. We all show up with many identities and complex histories that shape how we move through the world. I believe therapy is political because the mental health field has a history of pathologizing normal responses to trauma, racism, homophobia, etc.

My style is warm, engaging, collaborative and a bit quirky. I have been told that I have no poker face- and I am glad as I don’t believe therapists should lack the humanity of emotions. I will not just tell you what you want to hear and may also tell you what you may need to hear. And with so many hard parts of therapy, I also know that laughter is healing and belongs in the process as well.

About

My name is Shay

I’m a white, queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent, middle-aged human that struggles with chronic pain and illness. I am committed to continue learning about the privileges I show up with and deconstructing the powers that harm marginalized populations.

I grew up on the land of the Pawtucket people near what we now call Boston, but I don't have the fun accent. My undergraduate degree is in art but could never figure what to do with that until I discovered art therapy. I spent over a decade living on the land of the Salish people in what we now call Seattle. I loved my time there and I am still in awe of the scenery. In July of 2025 I made my way back to the east coast and have landed in the tiny state of Rhode Island. I love anything that gets me in nature, being creative, watching documentaries and teaching myself to be handy by watching videos. I have 2 dogs named Cocoa and Pepper, who are hysterical and keep me on my toes. And on rare occasion, I snort when I laugh.
